Meet RJ: from healthcare to the mixed-game circuit

RJ spent almost 30 years building some of the largest healthcare institutions in the United States. Now a retired doctor, he is reinventing himself as a full-time tournament player and poker personality.

His ties to the game run deep. Years ago, RJ volunteered alongside poker pros to lobby members of Congress and senators to legalize online poker in the US.

RJ has been playing mixed games for about a year and a half and believes they are on the verge of exploding, both in the US and worldwide. His regular circuit includes:

• The Irish Poker Open in Dublin every March
• All four BetMGM/Borgata Mixed Game Opens in Atlantic City (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall)
• The Caribbean Poker Tour in Aruba
• Planned for 2027: the Asian Poker Tour, the WSOP in Las Vegas, and more events across Europe

His goal is to become a top mixed-game tournament player, moving from $500 to $2,200 buy-ins up to $10,000+ events. Along the way, he wants to spread positivity and good cheer wherever he travels and plays.

Away from the tables, RJ is a Brand Ambassador for poker apparel company Bluff Everyone and runs his own firm, Wagon Wheel Capital Group. Through Randy James Poker, he is building a brand that blends poker, travel, player interviews, tournament experiences, and poker education, and already reaches about 50,000 views a month across his social channels.
