Hand Reading Simulator

Hand reading isn’t a single guess — it’s a process of elimination. Every check, bet, call, and street that arrives peels combinations off an opponent’s starting range until, by the river, only a specific set of hands realistically remains. This simulator walks you through that process on a real hand: read the action, narrow the range as each street reveals itself, then build your final read on an interactive 13×13 range matrix and see exactly how it compares to an expert-constructed answer — combo by combo.

How the Hand Reading Lab Works

Take on two bonus challenges. Bluff Hunter asks you to identify the most likely bluff categories; the Value vs. Bluff estimator has you guess the exact split before revealing the expert number.

Watch the hand unfold. Position, stack size, and every action are revealed street by street in a live hand history — nothing from later streets is shown early.

Narrow the range as you go. After preflop, the flop, and the turn, judge a short set of statements about how Villain’s range is realistically narrowing — this builds the same read a strong player makes in real time.

Build the final range. On the river, use the interactive range matrix to tag every hand you think Villain could hold as Value or Bluff — click to tag, use quick-select groups for pairs, suited aces, broadways, and connectors, and filter your view as you build.

Use hints if you’re stuck. Three progressive hints are available — covering the board, the action, and the combos — each with a small cost to your final score.

Compare against the expert range. Your range and the expert’s are shown side by side, then overlaid on the same matrix with color-coded accuracy: correct matches, partial (wrong tag) reads, false positives, and missed hands.

Review the full breakdown. A detailed scoring table covers Preflop, Flop, Turn, and River range accuracy plus Value Detection, Bluff Detection, and Combo Accuracy, followed by a written expert explanation of the hand.

  • Live range stats — range %, total combos, and value/bluff split update as you build
  • Three-tier hint system — board, action, and combo-focused hints, each with a scoring cost
  • Optional timer — Untimed, 90s, 60s, or 30s modes with a speed component built into scoring
  • Expert range comparison — a color-coded matrix overlay plus a 7-metric scoring breakdown (Preflop/Flop/Turn/River Range, Value Detection, Bluff Detection, Combo Accuracy)
  • Bluff Hunter & Value-vs-Bluff mini-challenges — bonus rounds built into every scenario’s results
  • Combo count & blocker analysis — see exactly how many combinations make up the expert range, and how board cards remove specific holdings

Hand Reading Isn’t Guessing — It’s Combinatorics

New players ask “what does he have?” Strong players ask “what does his range still contain after that action, and how many combinations of each hand type survive?” That shift — from a single guess to a weighted range — is the actual skill being trained here, and it’s the same process professionals run at the table in real time: start broad at the raise, narrow at every check and bet, and finish with a range shaped by board texture, bet sizing, and blockers rather than a hunch.

This simulator forces that process explicitly. You can’t just click one hand and move on — you’re building a genuine range, seeing its combo count and value/bluff split live, and then getting graded against an expert-constructed answer with full transparency on where your read was accurate, where it was a partial miss, and where you included hands that don’t belong.

Hand Reading Lab FAQ

Is this free to use? Yes, completely free, with no signup and no real money involved.

What’s an “expert range” in this tool? Each scenario ships with a hand-constructed reference range representing a realistic, well-reasoned set of hands Villain could hold given the position, stacks, board, and betting line — built for training purposes, not generated by a full game-theory solver.

How is my range graded against the expert range? Scoring is combo-weighted: exact matches (same hand, same value/bluff tag) score full credit, hands tagged the wrong way score partial credit, hands you selected that aren’t in the expert range are penalized lightly, and expert hands you missed entirely score zero for that hand.

What do the six game modes do differently? Range Battle is the full experience — street checks plus a final range matrix. Quick Practice runs five scenarios back to back. Timed Challenge adds a forced clock. Bluff Hunter and River Detective are faster standalone judgment rounds. Endless Mode strips things down to quick reads and ends your run after three mistakes.

Does the range matrix track suited hands by exact suit? No — like standard range charts, the matrix tracks hand classes (e.g., “AKs” for any suited Ace-King), not specific suits. Blocker discussion in the explanations refers to board-card removal, not your own hole cards.

Does my performance save between visits? Yes — your score, streak, accuracy history, and unlocked achievements are saved in your browser on this device, so they persist across sessions without needing an account.
