Not every online series needs a nine-figure guarantee to be worth your time. If you play micro and low stakes, the giant festivals can be the worst place to spend your bankroll. You face fields of 20,000 players, 12-hour sessions, and a min-cash that barely covers the buy-in.
The 2026 PokerNews Online Championship (PNOC) at 888poker sits at the other end of the scale. It runs for ten days, from October 18 to October 27, with 40 events. Combined guarantees come to roughly $780,000, according to the official schedule published by PokerNews. Buy-ins start at $5.50 and top out at $525, and almost the entire schedule is built around mystery bounties and knockouts.
Here is what’s on the schedule, which events look like the best value, and how to approach a mystery bounty series without lighting money on fire. If you’re still choosing where to play, our top poker sites page compares the main rooms on traffic, software and guarantees.

The Two Main Events (and Which One Fits Your Bankroll)
The PNOC runs two main events side by side. Choosing between them is mostly a bankroll decision. If you’re unsure what you can afford, run your numbers through our free poker bankroll calculator first.
$250 Mystery Main Event – $250,000 Guaranteed
This is the headline tournament. Day 1 flights started appearing in the 888poker lobby on October 11, a full week before the rest of the series. They keep running until October 26, when all survivors combine for Day 2 at 9:30 p.m. GMT.
Day 2 plays down to the final eight. They return at 7:00 p.m. GMT on October 27 for a final table streamed on 888poker’s Twitch channel.
Quick math: covering a $250,000 guarantee at $250 a shot takes somewhere north of 1,000 entries once the house fee comes out. That’s not a small number for 888poker, which brings us to the most useful piece of context in this article.
$25 Mystery Mini Main – $50,000 Guaranteed
This one costs a tenth of the price for a fifth of the guarantee. Day 1s open from October 18. Day 2 runs at the same time as the big brother: 9:30 p.m. GMT on October 26.
For a recreational player with a bankroll of a few hundred dollars, this is the main event to target. Firing two or three bullets here costs less than a single entry into the $250.
The Overlay Angle: Why 888poker Guarantees Can Be Real Value
An overlay happens when entries don’t cover the guarantee and the site pays the difference out of its own pocket. For players, that is free money in the prize pool.
888poker has a recent track record here. Its weekly $109 Mystery Bounty Main Event drew 721 entries in late August 2026, 153 of them re-entries, against an $80,000 guarantee. It still overlaid, as PokerNews reported. The site had already cut that guarantee from $100,000 to $80,000 in late July, and the event hadn’t reached even the lower number since.
That doesn’t mean every PNOC event will overlay, because festival branding and satellites usually boost turnout. But it tells you something important. 888poker’s player pool is smaller than GGPoker’s or PokerStars’, so fields are thinner and guarantees are more likely to be ambitious. (For a sense of how big the gap is, see our GGPoker review for 2026.)
Watch entry counts during late registration. If an event is tracking well below its guarantee near the end of registration, that’s the time to jump in.
Key Events Worth Circling
Rather than reprinting all 40 events, here are the ones that stand out on value, guarantee size, or format. The full list is on the PokerNews schedule page.

The schedule has a clear rhythm. Monday through Saturday each carry three events built around one theme:
- Monday: Mystery Bounty Frenzy
- Tuesday: Super KO
- Thursday: DeepStack
- Saturday: 6-Max mystery bounties
The two Sundays are where the guarantees peak. The series closes on Tuesday, October 27 with Closing Big Shot events at $109 and $320. For other weekend action, check our weekly roundup of poker tournaments this Sunday.
How to Play Mystery Bounties Without Burning Your Bankroll
About three-quarters of this schedule uses some form of bounty. If you’re used to standard freezeouts, a few adjustments make a real difference. For the fundamentals that apply to every format, start with our ultimate poker tournament strategy guide.
1. Understand when bounties actually switch on.
In a mystery bounty, part of every buy-in goes into a separate bounty pool. Bounties usually become “live” only in the later stages, typically around the money. Before that, the tournament plays much like a normal one. Don’t start calling off stacks in level three because you’re dreaming of a big envelope. There’s nothing to win yet.
2. Once bounties are live, call wider against short stacks.
When a short stack shoves into you, you’re playing for more than their chips. You’re also drawing a bounty that could be anything from a small amount to several times the buy-in. That extra equity justifies calling with hands you’d normally fold.
The shorter the stack and the cheaper the call, the wider you can go. Our pot odds calculator helps you check whether a call is profitable before the bounty is even counted.
3. Respect ICM at the final table.
Near the final table, pay jumps matter as much as bounties. Busting in eighth instead of fifth can cost more than a mid-sized bounty is worth. Try our ICM calculator to see how much each pay jump is really worth.
4. Expect the variance.
Mystery bounties are designed so most envelopes are small and a handful are huge. You can play perfectly, bust five players, and walk away with less than the buy-in. Or you can knock out one player and win the top bounty. Over a ten-day series that randomness evens out a little, but only if you play enough events.
5. Use satellites aggressively.
Satellites start at $0.10, so there’s no reason to pay full price for the Opening Event or the Main Event if you have time to grind. A good rule of thumb: never spend more than 2–5% of your bankroll on a single tournament entry. If the $250 Main Event is outside that range for you, win your way in or play the $25 Mini Main.

How PNOC Compares to Other October Series
October 2026 is crowded. Here’s how the PNOC stacks up against other series running this month, based on Pokerfuse’s October roundup:
| Series | Site | Who can play | Character |
| PokerNews Online Championship | 888poker | 888poker markets worldwide | Small, low-to-mid stakes, bounty-heavy, ~$780K GTD |
| WSOP Online Fall Poker Festival | WSOP.com | US only (NV, NJ, PA, MI) | 33 bracelets, 400–3,200 buy-ins, runs to Nov 10 |
| WSOP Online Super Circuit | WSOP.com | US only | 18 rings, $2M GTD, Oct 4–21 |
For players outside the United States, the PNOC is the most accessible festival-style series this month. Its smaller fields also make it friendlier to recreational players than the mega-series on bigger networks.

Practical Tips Before You Register
- Watch the clock change. The UK moves from BST back to GMT on Sunday, October 25, right in the middle of the series. The schedule is listed in GMT, but double-check start times in the 888poker lobby, which shows your local time.
- Plan your Sundays. October 18 and 25 carry the biggest guarantees. If you can only play two days, make it those two.
- Late register with purpose. In bounty events, late registration skips the early levels where little happens. You arrive just as bounties start to matter.
- Warm up first. A few hands on our free-play Texas Hold’em practice table or preflop decision trainer before your session cost nothing.
- Check your welcome offer. 888poker’s new-player bonus differs by country, so read the terms for your region before your first deposit. You can compare current deals on our poker bonuses page.
- Check local laws first. Real-money online poker isn’t legal everywhere. Make sure it’s permitted where you live and that 888poker accepts players from your location.
Final Verdict
The 2026 PokerNews Online Championship isn’t the biggest series of the autumn, and that’s exactly why it’s interesting. It offers modest buy-ins, two main events at different price points, and satellites from ten cents. Its host site’s guarantees have recently outrun its traffic. Together, that gives a realistic shot at a title to players who’d be lost in a 20,000-runner field elsewhere.
Pick your events and keep your buy-ins within your bankroll. In a mystery bounty, patience early on pays for aggression later.
