How to play
- Pick a game, then choose how tough the bots are: Easy, Medium or Hard.
- Press Deal. Everyone antes, and you get some cards face down and some face up.
- Bet after each new card: fold, check, call, bet or raise. Bets are a fixed size, small early and big later.
- Watch the face-up cards in front of the bots. They show which cards are gone and what the others may hold. In Mexican Poker you also choose which card to turn up.
- Turn on the equity overlay to see your share of the pot, and export your hand history when you are done.
Seven Card Stud
Fixed-limit 10/20 · best five of seven
- Everyone antes 2. You get two cards face down and one face up, and the player with the lowest up card must bring it in for 5. Ties are broken by suit: clubs, diamonds, hearts, spades from low to high.
- Bets are fixed-limit. On third and fourth street they are 10, and from fifth street on they are 20. On fourth street, if anyone shows a pair, the first bet may be 10 or 20. A round allows one bet and up to three raises, unless only two players are left.
- After third street, the player showing the best poker hand acts first. Only pairs and better count for that, not straights or flushes.
- There is no shared board. Watch the up cards: if three of your spades are dead in other hands, your flush draw is much weaker. Your final hand is the best five of your seven cards.
| Street | How a hand goes |
|---|---|
| Third street | 2 cards down, 1 up. Lowest up card brings it in. |
| Fourth street | 1 card up. Small bet (or big bet if a pair shows). |
| Fifth and sixth street | 1 card up each. Big bets. |
| Seventh street | Last card face down. Big bets, then showdown. |
Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo
Fixed-limit 10/20 · high and low
- It plays like Seven Card Stud, but the pot is split. Half goes to the best high hand and half to the best low hand made from any five of your seven cards.
- A low hand needs five different cards of rank 8 or lower, with the Ace counting low. Straights and flushes do not hurt a low, so A-2-3-4-5 is the best hand of all and also a high straight.
- Lows are compared from the highest card down: 7-5-4-2-A beats 8-4-3-2-A. If no one qualifies for a low, the best high takes the whole pot. You can win both halves, which is called scooping.
- Hands that can go both ways, such as A-2-3-4 of one suit, are worth the most. Odd chips go to the high hand. The face-up cards are the best clue about whether someone is going low.
| Situation | How the pot is split |
|---|---|
| A low hand is possible | Half to the best high, half to the best low |
| No one has a low | The best high wins it all |
| A low needs | Five different cards, all 8 or lower |
| Best low | A-2-3-4-5, the wheel |
Five Card Stud
Fixed-limit 10/20 · the classic stud
- Everyone antes 2 and gets one card face down (the hole card) and one face up. The player with the lowest up card brings it in for 5, with ties broken by suit.
- Three more cards come face up, with a betting round after each. Bets are 10 on the first two rounds and 20 on the last two. A round allows one bet and up to three raises.
- There is no draw, so your hand is the five cards you are dealt. A pair is a strong hand, and the hole card is your secret: other players only see four of your five cards.
- After the first round, the best poker hand showing acts first. Betting into a pair of Kings on the table is a very different game to betting into four unconnected low cards.
| Round | How a hand goes |
|---|---|
| Second street | 1 card down, 1 up. Lowest up card brings it in. |
| Third street | 1 card up. Small bet. |
| Fourth street | 1 card up. Big bet. |
| Fifth street | 1 card up. Big bet, then showdown. |
Razz
Fixed-limit 10/20 · ace-to-five low
- Razz is Seven Card Stud played for the lowest hand. You make the best five-card low from your seven cards. Aces are low, and straights and flushes do not count against you, so A-2-3-4-5 is the best possible hand.
- Pairs hurt you. Any hand with no pair beats any hand with a pair, and hands are compared from the highest card down, so 7-5-4-3-A beats 8-4-3-2-A.
- The highest up card on third street brings it in, and on later streets the player showing the lowest cards acts first. Ties for the bring-in are broken by suit, with spades highest.
- Starting hands with three low cards, such as A-2-3 or 2-4-5, are strong. Count the low cards you can see in other hands: if they hold the cards you need, your draw is worse than it looks.
| Rule | How Razz is scored |
|---|---|
| Best hand | A-2-3-4-5, the wheel |
| Aces | Always low |
| Straights and flushes | Do not count against you |
| Pairs | Count against you |
| Bring-in | The highest up card |
Mexican Poker
Fixed-limit 10/20 · you pick the up card
- Mexican Poker, also called Mexican Stud, is Five Card Stud with a twist: every card is dealt face down, and before each betting round you choose which of your hidden cards to turn face up.
- You get two cards, turn one up, and then bet. After each round you get another hidden card and again turn one up, so you finish with four cards showing and one hidden.
- The choice is the game. Showing a low card and keeping a pair hidden can look weak while you hold a strong hand, and showing a strong card can scare players away. Pick a card, then press Turn Up.
- Rules vary between games and rooms, and some use a stripped deck or wild cards. This free table uses the standard 52 cards, the usual poker ranking and the same bring-in and limits as Five Card Stud.
| Rule | What is different |
|---|---|
| Every card is dealt | Face down |
| Each round | You choose one hidden card to turn face up |
| Final hand | 4 cards up, 1 down |
| Hand ranking | As in Five Card Stud |
HORSE Rotation
Fixed-limit · changes every 4 hands
- HORSE is a mixed game: the five games above are played in turn, always fixed-limit. In this free version the game changes every four hands, which is one trip around the table.
- The line above the table tells you which game is on and how many hands are left in it. Hold'em and Omaha use blinds of 5 and 10 and a button, and the stud games use antes and a bring-in, just as on their own tabs.
- Limits are 10 on the first two betting rounds and 20 on the last two in every game. Pots in Omaha Hi-Lo and Stud Hi-Lo are split between the best high and the best 8-or-better low.
- The game rewards flexibility. Hands that are great in one game, such as a pair of Aces in Hold'em, can be poor in another, and a pair is bad news in Razz.
| Letter | The rotation |
|---|---|
| H | Limit Hold'em |
| O | Limit Omaha Hi-Lo (8 or better) |
| R | Razz |
| S | Seven Card Stud |
| E | Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo (8 or better) |
Every table is four-handed with 1,000 play-money chips each, fixed-limit betting of 10 and 20, antes of 2 and a bring-in of 5. A round allows one bet and up to three raises. Real rooms vary in limits, antes and bring-in rules, so check the rules where you play. Everything is for learning and entertainment.
Free stud poker FAQ
Are these games really free?
Yes. You play with play-money chips against three computer opponents. There is no sign-up, nothing to buy, and the chips have no cash value.
How is stud different from Hold'em?
There are no community cards. Each player gets their own cards, some face down and some face up, and betting happens after each new card. The face-up cards tell you a lot about what the others may hold, so remembering which cards you can see is part of the game.
What is a bring-in?
Stud has no blinds. After the antes, the player with the lowest face-up card (the highest in Razz) must open the betting with a small forced bet called the bring-in. Ties are broken by suit, from clubs up to spades.
What does fixed-limit mean?
Every bet and raise is a set size. Here the early rounds use the small bet of 10 and the later rounds the big bet of 20. A round allows one bet and up to three raises, unless only two players are left.
How do Razz and Stud Hi-Lo work?
In Razz the lowest hand wins: aces are low, straights and flushes do not count, and pairs hurt you. In Stud Hi-Lo the pot is split between the best high hand and the best low hand with five different cards of rank 8 or lower. If no one has a low, the best high takes it all.
What is Mexican Poker and HORSE?
In Mexican Poker, also called Mexican Stud, every card is dealt face down and you choose which one to turn up before each betting round. HORSE is a mix of Hold'em, Omaha Hi-Lo, Razz, Seven Card Stud and Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo, and in this free version the game changes every four hands.
What does the equity overlay show?
It estimates your share of the pot by counting the face-up cards you can see and dealing random cards for everything hidden. It does not know the bots' real cards. You can also export your hand history as a text file.
