How to play

  1. Pick a game, then choose how tough the bots are: Easy, Medium or Hard.
  2. Press Deal. Blinds go in, you get your cards face down, and there is a first round of betting.
  3. Draw: tap the cards you want to throw away and press Draw, or press Stand Pat to keep your hand. Watch how many cards each bot draws.
  4. Bet again after each draw. Bets are a fixed size, small early and big later. At the end the best hand wins, or the lowest in the lowball games.
  5. Turn on the equity overlay for a rough estimate of your chances, and export your hand history when you are done.

Five Card Draw

Fixed-limit 10/20 · draw once
  • Everyone gets five cards. There are blinds of 5 and 10, a round of betting, and then you may throw away cards and draw new ones from the deck, followed by a final round of betting.
  • You may draw up to three cards, or four if you hold an Ace. Keeping a pair and drawing three is the most common play. Keeping an Ace kicker with a pair is usually a mistake because it hides how strong you are.
  • The number of cards an opponent draws is public. Someone who stands pat has a made hand, someone who draws one card has two pair or a four-card draw, and someone who draws three probably holds a pair.
  • The best hand wins at showdown, using the normal poker ranking. Bets are 10 before the draw and 20 after it, with one bet and up to three raises in each round.

2-7 Triple Draw

Fixed-limit 10/20 · the lowest hand wins
  • The lowest hand wins. Aces are always high, and straights and flushes count as high hands, so the best possible hand is 7-5-4-3-2 with mixed suits. A hand of 8-high or 9-high is usually very good.
  • You get three draws, with a betting round after the deal and after each draw, four rounds in all. Bets are 10 in the first two rounds and 20 in the last two.
  • Keep low cards of different ranks and throw away pairs, high cards and cards that make a straight or flush. A hand like 7-5-4-3 plus any card that is not a 2 or 6 is a one-card draw to a 7 or 8 low.
  • Watch the draw counts. A player who stands pat early probably has a strong low, and one who draws two or three cards each time is still building. Low hands that draw one card on the last draw are strong against someone who draws two.

A-5 Triple Draw

Fixed-limit 10/20 · aces are low
  • This is ace-to-five lowball, the same scoring as Razz. Aces are low, straights and flushes do not hurt you, and the best hand is A-2-3-4-5.
  • It is played with three draws and four betting rounds, with bets of 10 in the first two rounds and 20 in the last two.
  • Pairs are the enemy, so keep one of each low rank and throw away the rest. A hand such as 6-4-3-2-A is excellent, and 8-7-6-5-4 is a decent hand that loses to nearly every 7-low.
  • Low cards are scarce once many are thrown away, so a draw to a 6 or 7 low is better than it looks. Compare your hand to how many cards each opponent is drawing.

Badugi

Fixed-limit 10/20 · four different suits and ranks
  • You get four cards. Your hand is the largest set of cards that have different suits and different ranks. A hand with four such cards is a badugi, and it beats every three-card hand.
  • Among hands with the same number of cards, the lowest wins, comparing from the highest card down. A-2-3-4 is the best badugi, and a 3-card hand like A-2-3 beats 4-5-6 but loses to any badugi.
  • A card that matches another in suit or rank does not count, so a pair or two cards of the same suit leaves you with only a three-card hand. Aces are low, and the game has three draws and four betting rounds.
  • Stand pat with a good badugi, such as a 9-high or better, and draw to three-card hands when you can improve. Bets are 10 in the first two rounds and 20 in the last two.

Badeucey

Fixed-limit 10/20 · two hands from five cards
  • You get five cards and three draws. Half the pot goes to the best 2-7 lowball hand, which uses all five cards, and half goes to the best badugi, which uses up to four of them.
  • In the 2-7 half, aces are high and straights, flushes and pairs count against you. In the badugi half, you want four cards with different suits and different ranks, and aces are high too, so the best badugi is 5-4-3-2 of four suits.
  • The same cards must work for both halves. Hands such as 7-5-4-3-2 in mixed suits are strong in both, and winning both halves is called a scoop.
  • Rules differ between rooms. For example, some use ace-low in the badugi half. This free table uses ace-high in both halves, with bets of 10 in the first two rounds and 20 in the last two.

2-7 Single Draw

Fixed-limit 10/20 · draw once
  • Single draw is 2-7 lowball with just one draw. The best hand is 7-5-4-3-2 in mixed suits, aces are high, and straights, flushes and pairs count against you.
  • With only one draw, a pat 8 or 9 is a very strong hand, and many players draw one card to a good four-card low. A hand drawing two or more cards needs luck.
  • How many cards your opponents draw is the main clue. Someone who stands pat is representing a made low, while someone who draws three has probably just a few low cards.
  • Bets are 10 before the draw and 20 after it, with one bet and up to three raises in each round.

8-Game Mix

Limit, No-Limit and Pot-Limit · changes every 4 hands
  • The 8-game mix plays eight games in turn: 2-7 Triple Draw, Limit Hold'em, Limit Omaha Hi-Lo, Razz, Seven Card Stud and Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo, followed by No-Limit Hold'em and Pot-Limit Omaha. In this free version the game changes every four hands, which is one trip around the table.
  • The line above the table shows which game is on, how many hands are left in it, and its betting structure. The limit games use bets of 10 and 20, the No-Limit game allows any raise up to your stack, and Pot-Limit Omaha caps a raise at the size of the pot.
  • Blinds are 5 and 10 in the Hold'em, Omaha and draw games. The stud games use antes and a bring-in, as on their own tabs.
  • Good mixed-game players adjust to the game in front of them, such as folding pairs in Razz and valuing position in Hold'em. Use the bot difficulty setting and the equity overlay to get a feel for each game.

Every table is four-handed with blinds of 5 and 10 and 1,000 play-money chips each. The limit games use bets of 10 and 20, with one bet and up to three raises per round. In the 8-Game Mix, the No-Limit and Pot-Limit games also appear. Real rooms vary in limits, blinds and in some rules, such as which hand ranks the aces, so this page states the rules it uses on each card. Everything is for learning and entertainment.

Free draw and lowball poker FAQ

Are these games really free?

Yes. You play with play-money chips against three computer opponents. There is no sign-up, nothing to buy, and the chips have no cash value.

How does a draw game work?

Everyone gets their cards face down, there is a round of betting, and then each player may throw away some cards and get new ones from the deck. Triple draw games repeat that three times, with a betting round after each draw. The number of cards each player draws is public, which makes it the main clue to what they hold.

What is the difference between 2-7 and A-5 lowball?

In both, the lowest hand wins. In 2-7 (deuce-to-seven), aces are high and straights and flushes count against you, so the best hand is 7-5-4-3-2 with mixed suits. In A-5 (ace-to-five), aces are low and straights and flushes do not count, so the best hand is A-2-3-4-5.

What is a badugi?

Badugi is played with four cards. A badugi is four cards of four different suits and four different ranks, and it beats any hand with fewer cards. Among hands with the same number of cards, the lowest wins, and aces are low, so A-2-3-4 of four suits is the best hand.

How does Badeucey split the pot?

You get five cards. Half the pot goes to the best 2-7 lowball hand using all five cards, and half goes to the best badugi using up to four of them. Aces are high in both halves here. One player can win both halves.

What is the 8-Game Mix?

It plays 2-7 Triple Draw, Limit Hold'em, Limit Omaha Hi-Lo, Razz, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo, No-Limit Hold'em and Pot-Limit Omaha in turn. In this free version the game changes every four hands, and the line above the table shows which game is on.

What does the equity overlay show?

It gives a rough estimate of your chance of winning, based on how strong your hand is, how many draws you have left and how many cards each opponent drew. It is a heuristic and does not know the bots' real cards. You can also export your hand history as a text file.
