The PokerGO Tour has confirmed how its 2026 season will end. The PGT Championship, a $500,000 freeroll, will be played on January 11–12, 2027, at the PokerGO Studio inside ARIA Las Vegas. The winner takes home $250,000, but only $100,000 of that is cash. The rest comes as a PGT Passport, a credit that can only be spent on PokerGO-run tournaments.

PokerGO announced the details on October 14, with the season’s last major, the Poker Masters, already under way. It marks a clear change of direction. The total prize pool is half of last season’s, and for the first time, most of the prize money is paid as Passport credit rather than cash.

How the 2026 Prize Pool Compares With Last Season

Here’s the change in real numbers, set against the 2025 Championship that Chad Eveslage won in January:

2025 Championship2026 ChampionshipChange
Total prize pool$1,000,000$500,000−50%
Places paid65−1
Winner’s total prize$500,000$250,000−50%
Winner’s cash$500,000$100,000−80%
Runner-up$200,000125,000(50,000 cash)−37.5%
Share paid in cash100%40%—

The headline number halves, but the cash a winner actually banks drops by 80%. For a high roller pro, a $150,000 Passport still has real value: it covers about 14 Poker Masters $10,500 entries. But it ties that money to PokerGO’s own schedule.

PGT Championship History: Five Seasons, Five Formats

The season finale has changed shape almost every year since the tour launched in 2021. This January’s event is the sixth PGT Championship and the fifth to be played as a freeroll.

Eveslage, best known as a mixed-games specialist, came into last season’s final day as the second-shortest stack. He went on to beat a final table that included Daniel Negreanu (4th) and Lichtenberger, who had dominated most of the event.

How to Qualify for the PGT Championship

Qualifying Through the PGT Leaderboard

The top 40 eligible players on the PGT leaderboard at the end of the regular season earn a seat. To be eligible, a player must:

  1. Have at least four cashes in PGT events during the 2026 season.
  2. Have at least one of those cashes in a PGT-owned-and-operated event.
  3. Opt in before PGT Last Chance begins.

If a qualified player doesn’t take their seat, it passes to the next eligible player on the leaderboard.

Qualifying Through a Dream Seat

  • PGT Last Chance (Jan 4–9): the top five players on the Last Chance leaderboard who aren’t already in the top 40 win a seat and start with 125 big blinds.
  • RunGood Poker Series Dream Seat Invitational: the winner of this $300 invitational for RGPS ring winners earns a seat and 100 big blinds.
  • Champions Club Texas Championship: the 2026 Champions Club Texas Player of the Year earns a seat and 100 big blinds.

Starting Stacks

Starting stacks are tied to final leaderboard position. The 40th qualifier starts with 130 big blinds, every player gets at least 100, and the Player of the Year starts as chip leader with a $25,000 Passport bonus.

Why the Real Cut Line Is Deeper Than 40th

Here’s something the “top 40” headline hides. We checked the official leaderboard (updated October 12). At least 13 of the current top 40 players have fewer than four cashes this season, so right now they don’t meet the eligibility rule.

Most of them climbed the board on a single huge score, usually at the WSOP:

  • Lucas Jumalon, 7th, has one cash: his $10 million WSOP Main Event win.
  • Lauri Saaskilahti, 12th, has one cash worth $6 million.
  • Greg Mueller, Michael Gagliano, Jamie Shaevel, Rami Hammoud, Naseem Salem, Mario Boos, Evagoras Evagorou and Zurvan Tumboli (40th) each have exactly one cash.
  • Han Feng and David Peters have two, and Santhosh Suvarna has three.

Unless those players add cashes before January, their seats will roll down the board. That means players currently ranked in the 40s and 50s have a much better chance of qualifying than the raw rankings suggest. It also makes the PGT Sprint (October 27–November 4) and PGT Last Chance far more important for anyone sitting just outside the top 40.

PGT Player of the Year Race 2026

The chip lead in January, and the $25,000 Passport that comes with it, is still wide open:

RankPlayerPGT pointsCashes
1Sean Winter1,85015
2Eelis Parssinen1,8437
3Alex Foxen1,77715
4Brock Wilson1,68113
5Brandon Wilson1,62615

Official PGT leaderboard, October 12, 2026.

Only seven points separate Winter and Parssinen. A single $10,500 Poker Masters win this season has been worth 218–235 points, so the order could flip several times before the leaderboard locks in January. Foxen, the 2025 Player of the Year, is 73 points back.
