Ten days, forty tournaments, and a schedule that runs from a $5.50 mystery bounty all the way up to a $525 High Roller. The PokerNews Online Championship 2026 lands on 888 from October 18 to October 27. If you play online tournaments at small to mid stakes, it’s one of the more interesting autumn series on the calendar. That’s not because it’s the biggest. It’s because of how it’s built.
I went through the full published schedule event by event, added up the numbers myself, and lined this edition up against the previous ones. Below you’ll find what’s actually on offer, how it compares, and how I’d approach it with a real bankroll.

What Is the PokerNews Online Championship?
The PNOC is a co-branded online series run by 888poker and PokerNews, the long-running poker media site. It debuted in February 2024 with a $1 million guarantee across 43 events, and it has come back roughly twice a year since.
Think of it as a festival inside the regular schedule. You get 888’s usual tournament formats (PKOs, deep stacks, mystery bounties) with bigger guarantees, a “PNOC champion” title worth bragging about, and a Main Event final table streamed on Twitch.
For players, the appeal is simple. 888’s traffic is softer than on the very largest sites. Series like this also attract plenty of recreational players who only open the client when there’s a headline event. Reasonable fields plus lots of casual opponents is exactly what you want at micro and low stakes.
How 2026 Compares With Previous Editions
This is the part most previews skip, and it’s worth your attention.
| Edition | Events | Total GTD | Main Event | Mini Main | Lowest buy-in |
| Feb 25 – Mar 5, 2024 (inaugural) | 43 | $1,000,000 | — | — | — |
| November 2024 | 36 | $1,000,000+ | $215 Mystery Bounty, $300K GTD | $25, $50K GTD | $5.50 |
| Feb 16 – 23, 2025 | 40 | $1,000,000+ | $215, $300K GTD | $25 Mystery Bounty | $11 |
| Oct 18 – 27, 2026 | 40 | ≈ $786,000 | $250 Mystery Bounty, $250K GTD | $25, $50K GTD | $5.50 |
The takeaway: the 2026 series has the same number of events as February 2025, but the total guarantee is down by roughly a fifth. The Main Event also costs $35 more while guaranteeing 50,000less.Thatreadslike888settingguaranteesit’sconfidentitcanhit,ratherthanchasingaround”1 million” headline. The live numbers below show why.
Live Data Snapshot: What 888’s Recent Results Tell Us (as of 8 October 2026)
Guarantees on paper only mean so much. The better question is how many players 888 actually pulls in right now. Here’s the most recent hard data I could find, all from the last few weeks.
The XL Autumn Series: a near-perfect test run
888 ran its XL Autumn Series from September 20 to 29, 2026, just three weeks before the PNOC. It had 41 events, a $250 Main Event and a $25 Mini Main, which is almost the same structure as the PNOC. Here’s how its two headline events finished:
| XL Autumn 2026 event | Buy-in | Guarantee | Entries | Result |
| Mystery Main Event | $250 | $300,000 | 1,283 | Slight overlay |
| Mystery Mini Main | $25 | $50,000 | 2,272 | $51,120 pool, beat GTD by $1,120 |
888’s weekly Mystery Bounty Main: the traffic thermometer
| Date | Buy-in | Guarantee | Entries | Result |
| Aug 25, 2026 | $109 | $80,000 (cut from $100,000 in July) | 721 (incl. 153 re-entries) | Overlay |
| Sep 14, 2026 | $109 | $80,000 | 683 | Overlay |
Where 888 sits in the global traffic table
| Rank | Site | Players online (snapshot) |
| 1 | GGPoker | 4,030 |
| 2 | PokerStars | 2,029 |
| 3 | WPT Global | 1,756 |
| 4 | CoinPoker | 861 |
| 5 | Americas Cardroom | 630 |
| 6 | JackPoker | 516 |
| 7 | 888poker | 343 |
This snapshot was published by PokerListings and last updated on 27 June 2026. Traffic trackers measure differently. Another tracker (DeucesCracked, July 2026) estimates the wider 888 network at roughly 2,200 average and 4,500 peak players online at once. Treat these figures as a ranking guide, not exact headcounts.
What this means for the PNOC: my projection
Here’s the useful part. The Mini Main result ($51,120 from 2,272 entries) means roughly $22.50 of each $25 buy-in went into the prize pool. I applied a similar ratio to the $250 Main, which gives about $225 per entry (my estimate). On that basis, here’s what each PNOC headline event needs:
| PNOC 2026 event | Guarantee | Entries needed (est.) | Comparable recent turnout | Outlook |
| $250 Mystery Main Event | $250,000 | ≈ 1,110 | 1,283 (XL Autumn Main) | Should clear GTD if turnout holds |
| $25 Mystery Mini Main | $50,000 | ≈ 2,225 | 2,272 (XL Autumn Mini) | Tight, small overlay possible |
| $109 Mystery Opening Event | $80,000 | ≈ 800 | 683–721 (weekly MB Main) | Overlay candidate |
Reading the numbers: 888 has clearly learned from September. It dropped the Main Event guarantee from $300K to $250K, a level the XL Autumn field would have beaten comfortably. The Mini Main, though, is priced right at the edge of what 888 drew three weeks ago. The $109 Opening Event’s $80K guarantee is the same figure the weekly Mystery Bounty Main has been missing.
For value hunters, those two are the events to watch. If traffic dips even slightly, 888 has to top up the prize pool, and that’s free money for the players who entered.
By the Numbers: What the Schedule Tells You
- 26 of 40 events (65%) are mystery bounties. If you don’t enjoy that format, your options shrink fast. The rest are PKOs, Super KOs, DeepStacks, High Rollers and the closing Big Shots.
- The two Sundays carry about $278,000 in guarantees, around 35% of the total, across 13 events. October 18 alone has seven tournaments and $168,000 guaranteed.
- The two Main Events make up $300,000, about 38% of the entire series. Everything else is a supporting cast.
- 16 events cost $25 or less. This is a genuinely micro-friendly series, with a 5.50–8.80 option on almost every day.
- Weekdays are light. There are just three events a day from Monday to Saturday, so it’s easy to build a focused schedule without burning out.

Key Start Times in Your Time Zone
| Session | GMT | India (IST) | US East (ET) |
| Typical weekday start | 5:00 pm | 10:30 pm | 1:00 pm |
| $109 Mystery Opening Event (Oct 18) | 5:00 pm | 10:30 pm | 1:00 pm |
| Main & Mini Main Day 2 (Oct 26) | 9:30 pm | 3:00 am (Oct 27) | 5:30 pm |
| Main Event Final Table (Oct 27) | 7:00 pm | 12:30 am (Oct 28) | 3:00 pm |
One small trap: UK clocks go back on October 25, in the middle of the series. The 888 client shows times in your local time zone, so trust the lobby over any converted table, including this one.
The Two Main Events, Explained
This is the headline act, and it starts early. Day 1 flights open on October 11, a full week before the rest of the series, and keep running until October 26.
Day 2 starts at 9:30 p.m. GMT on October 26 and plays down to the last eight players. Those eight return at 7:00 p.m. GMT on October 27 for a final table streamed on the 888poker Twitch channel.
The multi-flight format matters more than people think. You don’t need to win your flight. You just need to get through to Day 2 with chips. If you’re qualifying through satellites, the early start gives you a two-week window instead of a mad rush on the weekend.
The Mini Main runs on the same template at a tenth of the price. Day 1s start October 18, and Day 2 runs on October 26 alongside the big Main Event. For anyone with a bankroll under $1,000, this is the event to circle.
Mystery Bounties in Plain English
In a mystery bounty tournament, part of each buy-in goes into a separate bounty pool. When you knock someone out during the bounty phase, you don’t get a fixed amount. Instead you draw a hidden bounty that might be a few dollars or the top prize in the pool.
In most mystery bounty formats, bounties only switch on once the field reaches a later stage, often around the money. Until then, the early levels play like a normal tournament without bounties. The exact trigger varies, so check each event’s lobby details.
Practical point: base your calling decisions on the average bounty, not the jackpot. Players chasing the top bounty make loose calls with weak hands, and that money flows toward disciplined players.
How I’d Approach the Series (Practical Tips)
- Size your buy-ins. A common rule of thumb for tournament players is to keep any single buy-in to around 1–2% of your bankroll. With $500, that points you to the 5.50–8.80 events, with the $25 Mini Main as an occasional shot. With $5,000, the $55 events are comfortable and the $109 Opening Event becomes a sensible shot.
- Satellite into the Main rather than paying full price. Qualifiers start at $0.10. Even mid-stakes regulars use satellite steps to cut their cost, and there’s no prize for paying full price.
- Treat Sunday, October 18 as your priority day. It has seven events and $168,000 guaranteed on one evening, including the $80K Opening Event. That’s where recreational traffic will be heaviest.
- Plan around the clock if you’re in Asia. Main Event Day 2 starts at 3:00 a.m. IST. If you get through Day 1, decide now whether you’ll play Day 2 rested or skip it. Tired poker is expensive poker.
- Mix in an event without bounties. The DeepStack day (October 22) and the Super KO day (October 20) reward different skills. Variety keeps you sharp over ten days.
- Watch the final table. Even if you don’t run deep, the cards-up Twitch stream on October 27 is a free lesson in short-handed, high-pressure play.
Verdict: Is the 2026 PNOC Worth Your Time?
What we like: a genuinely low entry point, a $25 Mini Main with the same guarantee it’s always had, only three events a day on weekdays, and plenty of satellite routes into the Main.
What to be aware of: total guarantees are clearly down on past editions, the schedule leans very heavily on mystery bounties, and start times are tough for players in Asia-Pacific.
If you play micro to low stakes tournaments and already have (or can legally open) an 888 account, this is an easy series to recommend. The two Sundays and the Mini Main stand out. High-stakes regulars will find more value elsewhere.
Either way, play within your limits. Poker is entertainment first, and online gambling is only legal in some places. 18+ only.
