Crazy 4 Poker

Last Updated on October 20, 2026 by Bala Kumar

Crazy 4 Poker is a casino table game where you play against the dealer instead of other players. You and the dealer each get five cards and use the best four to make a poker hand. After seeing your cards, you either fold or continue. With a pair of aces or better, you can raise up to three times your Ante.

Roger Snow created the game around 2004, and it’s still found in casinos today. According to a Las Vegas table-game survey updated in May 2026, Crazy 4 Poker was offered at 15 Las Vegas casinos: nine on the Strip and six locals casinos. Minimum bets were usually $10 to $25 on the Strip and $5 to $10 at locals casinos. Minimums often rise during busy times, so check the limit before you sit down.

This guide covers everything you need to know before you play: the rules, hand rankings, the three-rule strategy, every payout table, the house edge, Queens Up odds, example hands with dollar results, and how Crazy 4 Poker compares with Four Card Frenzy.

What Is Crazy 4 Poker?

Crazy 4 Poker is a casino version of poker. You don’t play against other people, there are no community cards, and there’s no bluffing. Your only opponent is the dealer.

The biggest difference from Texas Hold’em is that every hand uses four cards. This changes the hand rankings because some hands are harder to make with four cards. For example, three of a kind ranks above both a flush and a straight.

You also make two required bets instead of one. The Ante is your main bet against the dealer, while the Super Bonus pays only when you make a straight or better.

Crazy 4 Poker Rules: How to Play

Step 1: Place the Ante and Super Bonus

Place equal bets on the Ante and Super Bonus. Both bets are required. You can also make the optional Queens Up bet, which can be a different amount as long as it fits within the table limits.

Step 2: Receive Five Cards

You and the dealer each receive five cards face down. You’ll use your best four cards and ignore the fifth.

Step 3: Fold or Make a Play Bet

After looking at your cards, choose one of these options:

  • Fold: you lose your Ante and Super Bonus. If you made a Queens Up bet, it’s still settled at casinos that allow this.
  • Play 1x: bet the same amount as your Ante.
  • Play up to 3x: bet up to three times your Ante. You can only do this with a pair of aces or better.

Step 4: The Dealer Reveals and Qualifies

The dealer needs at least king-high to qualify. The table below shows how your bets are settled when your hand is lower than a straight. Straights and better are covered in Step 5.

If the dealer doesn’t qualify, you can’t lose your Ante, Play or Super Bonus. Your Play bet wins even money, and your Ante and Super Bonus are returned.

Step 5: Settle the Super Bonus and Queens Up

  • Super Bonus with a straight or better: it always pays according to the paytable, even if the dealer qualifies and beats you. If you lose the hand, your original Super Bonus bet stays on the table and you still collect the bonus payout.
  • Super Bonus with less than a straight: it’s settled using the table in Step 4.
  • Queens Up: this bet depends only on your hand. It pays with a pair of queens or better, no matter what the dealer has.

Crazy 4 Poker Hand Rankings

Four-card hands rank differently from standard five-card poker. Since three of a kind is harder to make with four cards, it ranks above both a flush and a straight.

RankHandExample (Best 4 of 5)Probability
1Four of a kindA♠ A♥ A♦ A♣0.024%
2Straight flush9â™  8â™  7â™  6â™ 0.080%
3Three of a kindK♠ K♥ K♦ 5♣2.26%
4FlushA♥ J♥ 8♥ 4♥4.41%

6Two pairK♠ K♥ 8♦ 8♣4.75%
7One pairQ♠ Q♥ 9♦ 4♣—
8High cardA♠ J♥ 8♦ 5♣—

Aces are high except in the A-2-3-4 straight, where the ace counts as low. A pair of queens or better matters only for the Queens Up side bet. It’s still part of the regular “One pair” ranking.

Crazy 4 Poker Strategy: The 3 Basic Rules

Perfect strategy depends on all five of your cards and is too complicated to memorize. Fortunately, this simple version gets you almost the same result. Use the first rule that applies:

  1. Raise 3x with a pair of aces or better.
  2. Raise 1x with K-Q-8-4 or better.
  3. Fold everything else.

Using this simple strategy instead of perfect strategy increases the house edge by only 0.000089%. That difference is too small to matter in real play. For more examples, read our Crazy 4 Poker strategy guide.

How Often Each Decision Happens

DecisionFrequency
Raise 3x18.56%
Raise 1x57.93%
Fold23.51%

How to Read K-Q-8-4

Compare your best four cards with K-Q-8-4, starting with the highest card. The first card that’s different decides whether your hand is better or worse.

  • K-Q-9-3: raise, because the 9 beats the 8.
  • K-Q-8-5: raise, because the 5 beats the 4.
  • K-Q-7-6: fold, because the 7 is lower than the 8.
  • K-J-10-9: fold, because the jack is lower than the queen.
  • Any pair from 2s through kings: raise 1x.

Suits don’t matter here unless they give you a flush or straight flush.

Can You Raise 3x With Queens in Crazy 4 Poker?

No. You can only raise 3x with a pair of aces or better, so pairs of queens or kings must be played for 1x. Queens are still useful because a pair of queens is the lowest hand that wins the Queens Up side bet.

When you have aces or better, always make the full 3x raise. Betting only 1x with a strong hand like three of a kind is one of the most costly mistakes you can make.

Crazy 4 Poker Payouts and Pay Tables

Main Game Payouts

If you beat a qualifying dealer, your Ante and Play bets both pay even money. If the dealer doesn’t qualify, your Play bet still wins even money and your Ante is returned. The Ante never pays a bonus.

Super Bonus Pay Table

HandPayout
Four aces200 to 1
Four of a kind (2s–Ks)30 to 1
Straight flush15 to 1
Three of a kind2 to 1
Flush3 to 2
Straight1 to 1

The Super Bonus pays on about 10.69% of hands, which is roughly one hand in nine. That’s how often you make a straight or better. The bigger payouts start at three of a kind, which happens on about 2.36% of hands, or roughly one hand in 42.

Queens Up Pay Tables

Casinos can choose from four standard Queens Up paytables. The only differences are the payouts for three of a kind and a straight flush:

HandVersion 1Version 2Version 3Version 4
Four of a kind50 to 150 to 150 to 150 to 1
Straight flush30 to 140 to 130 to 140 to 1
Three of a kind9 to 18 to 18 to 17 to 1
Flush4 to 14 to 14 to 14 to 1
Straight3 to 13 to 13 to 13 to 1
Two pair2 to 12 to 12 to 12 to 1
Pair of queens or better1 to 11 to 11 to 11 to 1
House edge3.07%4.53%5.33%6.79%

Version 4 is the most common in Las Vegas. On that paytable, three of a kind pays 7 to 1.

Crazy 4 Poker House Edge and Odds

The house edge is the casino’s average advantage over a very large number of hands. It can’t predict what will happen on any single hand or in a single session.

BetHouse Edge / Return
Ante + Play + Super Bonus combined3.42% house edge, measured against the Ante
Element of risk1.09% of all money bet
Average total bet per hand3.14 units
Queens Up3.07%–6.79%, depending on the paytable
Bad Beat Bonus side betAbout 17%–20%

The 3.42% house edge includes the Ante, Play and Super Bonus bets together. It isn’t the house edge of the Super Bonus alone.

The Super Bonus by itself has a large negative return because it loses whenever the dealer beats a hand lower than a straight. Since it’s a required bet, it’s built into the overall 3.42% figure.

The element of risk is lower at 1.09% because it compares the expected loss with all the money you bet. That includes your Play bets, which add up to an average of 3.14 units per hand.

What That Means in Dollars

If you bet $10 on the Ante and $10 on the Super Bonus, perfect strategy gives an expected loss of about $0.34 per hand. That’s 3.42% of your $10 Ante.

This is a long-run average, not a guaranteed result. You could win or lose much more in any one session. Over many hands at about 60 hands per hour, the average works out to roughly $20 per hour.

A $5 Queens Up bet on the common 7-to-1 paytable costs about another $0.34 per hand on average. On the 9-to-1 paytable, it costs about $0.15 per hand.

Bad Beat Bonus Side Bet

Some casinos offer an optional Bad Beat Bonus. It pays if you lose with two pair or better, or if you beat a dealer hand of two pair or better. The top payout can be as high as 25,000 to 1.

However, the bet wins only about 2.4% of the time and has a house edge of roughly 17% to 20%. That makes it one of the most expensive bets on the table.

Queens Up Side Bet: Odds and Payouts

Queens Up is a bet on your own five cards. You can win it even if you lose the main hand to the dealer.

Queens Up ResultProbability
Any winning hand24.79%, about 1 in 4
Pair of queens, kings or aces9.35%
Two pair4.75%
Flush4.41%
Straight3.92%
Three of a kind2.26%
Straight flush0.080%
Four of a kind0.024%
Losing hand75.21%

Winning about one hand in four may sound good, but most wins pay only 1 to 1 or 2 to 1. Whether the bet is worth making depends mostly on the three-of-a-kind payout.

Quick table check: look at the three-of-a-kind payout on the table layout. If it pays 9 to 1, the house edge is 3.07%. If it pays 7 to 1, the house edge more than doubles to 6.79%.

Crazy 4 Poker Example Hands

Each example uses a $10 Ante and a $10 Super Bonus. Some examples also include a $5 Queens Up bet on the common 7-to-1 paytable.

Example 1: Pair of Aces — Raise 3x

Cards: A♠ A♥ K♦ 8♣ 3♠ → best four: A-A-K-8

You have a pair of aces, so bet $30 on Play.

  • Dealer qualifies and you win: Ante +10,Play+30, and Super Bonus is returned because a pair is lower than a straight. Net: +$40.
  • Dealer doesn’t qualify: Play +$30, while Ante and Super Bonus are returned. Net: +$30.
  • Queens Up: a pair of aces pays 1 to 1. Extra: +$5.

Example 2: Pair of Queens — Raise 1x Only

Cards: Q♠ Q♥ 9♦ 4♣ 2♠ → best four: Q-Q-9-4

You can’t raise 3x with queens, so bet $10 on Play. Your $5 Queens Up bet wins $5 no matter what the dealer has.

Example 3: K-Q-8-4 — Raise 1x

Cards: K♠ Q♥ 8♦ 4♣ 2♥ → best four: K-Q-8-4

This hand exactly meets the minimum, so bet $10 on Play. If you had K-Q-7-5 instead, you would fold.

Example 4: Weak High Card — Fold

Cards: J♠ 9♥ 6♦ 3♣ 2♠ → best four: J-9-6-3

This hand is below K-Q-8-4, so fold. You lose your Ante and Super Bonus. Net: −$20. If you made a Queens Up bet, it also loses.

Example 5: Three of a Kind That Loses

Cards: 7♥ 7♠ 7♦ K♣ 2♥ → three sevens

You have better than a pair of aces, so bet $30 on Play. The dealer reveals three queens, which beats your three sevens.

  • Ante and Play: you lose −$40.
  • Super Bonus: three of a kind pays 2 to 1, so you win +$20. Your original bet is also returned.
  • Main hand result: −$20.
  • Queens Up at 7 to 1: your $5 bet wins +$35, giving you a net gain of +$15.
  • Queens Up at 9 to 1: your $5 bet wins +$45, giving you a net gain of +$25.

Crazy 4 Poker vs Four Card Frenzy

Four Card Frenzy is very similar to Crazy 4 Poker. It uses the same cards, hand rankings and three-rule strategy. The main difference is how its required bonus bet pays.

If both games are available, Four Card Frenzy gives you slightly better odds, and the strategy is exactly the same. Crazy 4 Poker is also different from Four Card Poker, which has different dealer and raise rules.

Common Crazy 4 Poker Mistakes

Raising Only 1x With Aces or Better

This costs you money on your strongest hands. If you’re allowed to raise 3x, always do it.

Folding Small Pairs

Any pair from 2s through kings should be played with a 1x raise.

Playing Weak King-High Hands

Hands like K-Q-7 or K-J high are below K-Q-8-4, so fold them.

Ignoring the Queens Up Paytable

The house edge can range from 3.07% to 6.79%, depending on the three-of-a-kind payout. Check the layout before you bet.

Treating Optional Bets as Free Upgrades

Queens Up and Bad Beat bets add risk without improving the main game. The Bad Beat bet has a house edge of about 17% or more.

Using Five-Card Rankings

In Crazy 4 Poker, three of a kind beats a flush. If you use standard five-card poker rankings, you’ll make the wrong decisions.

Crazy 4 Poker for Beginners: Quick Checklist

  • [ ] Skip the Bad Beat bet unless you’re making a small bet just for fun.
  • [ ] Set a loss limit before you sit down.

Final Thoughts

Crazy 4 Poker is easy to learn, and three simple rules are enough to play almost perfectly. Raise 3x with aces or better, raise 1x with K-Q-8-4 or better, and fold everything else.

After that, the most important decision is choosing the right table. Look for a low minimum bet and a Queens Up paytable that pays 8 to 1 or 9 to 1 for three of a kind. Skip the Bad Beat bet, and remember that no strategy can remove the house edge. Treat every session as entertainment, and only play with money you can afford to lose.
