The headline story is 22-year-old Lucas Jumalon, a recent college graduate who steamrolled Day 8 to build a commanding 194-million stack, good for roughly 35% of all chips in play, or 130 big blinds. It’s the largest chip-lead percentage any Main Event final-table leader has held in the last five years. History offers a mixed omen, though: of the last five chip leaders coming into a final table, only two, Espen Jorstad and Koray Aldemir, went on to actually win, though none finished worse than third.
