If you play online poker in the United States, there’s a good chance you’ve ended up at a BetMGM table, even if the logo said Borgata or PartyPoker. The BetMGM network is now the biggest player in regulated US online poker, and the BetMGM Poker app is the main way most people get into those games.
This guide explains where the app is legal, how to download and set it up, what “shared liquidity” means for your games, and whether the welcome bonus is worth chasing. It’s written for beginners, but there are practical notes for regulars too.

Where Is the BetMGM Poker App Legal?
Right now, BetMGM Poker operates in three states: New Jersey, Michigan and Pennsylvania. You don’t have to live there, but you do have to be physically located inside one of those states when you play. The app checks this with geolocation every time you sit down.
That last point catches a lot of first-timers. If you’re visiting Atlantic City from New York, you can play from your hotel room. Drive back across the state line and the app will lock you out of real-money games, even though your account is still active.
For readers outside the US, the app isn’t available in your country. BetMGM Poker is a US-only, state-regulated product, so international players will need to look at other licensed sites.
How to Download and Set Up the App
Getting started takes about ten minutes if you have your documents ready.
- Download the right app for your state. BetMGM offers iOS and Android apps, plus desktop software for Windows and Mac. On some devices you’ll pick your state during install, so make sure you choose the one you’ll actually play in.
- Create your account. You’ll need your full legal name, date of birth, address and the last four digits of your Social Security number. That’s standard for every regulated US poker site.
- Allow location access. Turn on location services. On desktop, you may need a small geolocation plugin as well. Without this, you can browse the lobby but you can’t play for real money.
- Make your first deposit. Options include debit and eligible credit cards, PayPal, bank transfers and Apple Pay, depending on your state. Not every method works for withdrawals, so check before you rely on one.
- Opt in to the welcome bonus if you want it (more on whether you should below).
Practical tip: use the same payment method for deposits and withdrawals where you can. It’s the most common reason first cashouts get delayed.
Shared Liquidity Explained (and Why It Matters)
“Liquidity” is just poker-speak for how many players are available to play against. The more players, the more tables running, the bigger the tournament guarantees, and the more choice you have at your stake.
For years, US online poker was ring-fenced. Players in New Jersey could only play other New Jersey players, and the same went for every other state. That kept player pools small and made late-night games hard to find.
That changed through the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA), a compact that lets participating states combine their player pools. For BetMGM, it happened in two steps:
| Date | Milestone |
| November 2024 | Michigan joins New Jersey in one shared BetMGM pool |
| April 28, 2025 | Pennsylvania joins, creating a three-state network |
Today, when you open the BetMGM Poker app in Pennsylvania, you’re sitting with players from New Jersey and Michigan too. Borgata Poker runs on the same network, so its players are in the same games. In New Jersey, PartyPoker is also part of that player pool.
What shared liquidity means at the table
- More games running at off-peak hours. If you play late at night or mid-week, you’ll notice it most.
- Bigger tournament guarantees. The network’s Spade Championship series ran 67 events with buy-ins from $100 to $2,500 and over $3 million in guarantees, numbers a single state couldn’t easily support.
- Softer, more varied fields. A wider mix of players from three states means you’re not facing the same regulars every session.
How BetMGM Compares to Its Rivals
The clearest real-world measure of BetMGM’s growth comes from New Jersey, the one state where poker revenue is reported by operator in detail. In February 2026, NJ’s online poker market brought in just over $2.3 million, and the BetMGM network passed 50% market share for the first time. In 2024, its share was about 46%.
| Network (NJ) | February 2026 snapshot |
| BetMGM network (BetMGM, Borgata, PartyPoker) | Just over 50% market share |
| WSOP.com | Over $700,000 revenue, about one-third of the market |
| PokerStars US | $477,000, down 27% year-over-year |
Since then, the landscape has shifted again. PokerStars closed its standalone US platform in April 2026 and moved its poker offering onto FanDuel, pooling its own NJ, MI and PA players. In September 2026, Flutter also began offering the PokerStars Network to other operators, though no US partner has been announced.
What this means for you: BetMGM is currently the largest regulated network across its three states, but WSOP.com (which also covers Nevada) and PokerStars on FanDuel are both credible alternatives. Serious players often keep accounts on two networks so they can follow the best tournament schedules.
Games You Can Play on the App
The BetMGM Poker app covers far more than Hold’em:
- Cash games: No-Limit Hold’em, Pot-Limit Omaha, Limit Hold’em, Omaha Hi-Lo, Stud and Stud Hi-Lo
- fastforward: BetMGM’s fast-fold cash games, where you move to a new table as soon as you fold
- Tournaments: daily guarantees, progressive knockouts, satellites and freerolls
- SPINS: three-player jackpot Sit & Gos with prize multipliers up to 2,400x your buy-in
- Live event satellites: routes into Borgata’s live series in Atlantic City
That last one is worth highlighting. BetMGM and Borgata Poker run satellites into Borgata’s live festivals, including the Borgata Fall Poker Open (November 3–17, 2026) and its $2,700 Championship, with qualifiers starting from just $2.
The BetMGM Poker Bonus: Worth It?
The current BetMGM Poker bonus for new players has two parts:
1. A 100% deposit match up to $1,000. This isn’t free cash. It’s released in 10% chunks as you earn BetMGM Rewards Points (BRPs) by paying rake or tournament fees.
2. Up to $85 in tournament tickets, depending on your first deposit:
| First deposit | Tickets |
| 10–499 | $25 |
| 500–999 | $55 |
| $1,000 | $85 |
To qualify, your account must be new, your first deposit must be at least $10, and you need to make it within seven days of signing up. Some signup paths ask for a bonus code and others don’t, so check the offer page before you deposit.
An honest take
For recreational players, the tickets are the real prize. A $10 deposit gets you $25 in tournament entries, which is excellent value. Don’t feel pressured to deposit $1,000 to “max out” a match you may never clear.
For regular grinders, the match is worth taking because you’ll earn the rake points anyway. Cash games earn 5 BRPs per $1 of rake, doubling to 10 during the daily 4–7 PM Boost Hours. If you play cash games, scheduling sessions in that window is the simplest way to speed up bonus release.
Rule of thumb: deposit an amount you’d play with anyway, and treat any bonus money you release as a rakeback-style perk, not a reason to play more.
