Guts Poker

Pot game · losers match the pot
  • Everyone antes 5 and gets three cards. At the same time, each player decides whether to stay in or drop out. When everyone has decided, the players who stayed in show their hands.
  • The best hand wins the pot. Any other player who stayed in and lost has to match the pot, and that money starts the next pot, which is why pots can grow quickly.
  • This free version uses the three-card ranking above: a straight beats a flush, and a pair beats a high card. Ace is high, and A-2-3 counts as a straight.
  • A good rule is to stay in only with a hand that is likely to beat the others who stay in. Turn on the equity overlay to see how many three-card hands yours beats.

Follow the Queen

Fixed-limit 7-card stud · Queens wild
  • It is Seven Card Stud with wild cards. Queens are always wild, and each time a Queen is dealt face up, the next face-up card dealt makes its rank wild as well, for everyone, until another face-up Queen appears.
  • A wild card can stand for any card, so Five of a Kind is the best hand, ahead of a Straight Flush. The line above the table always shows which ranks are wild right now, and your wild cards are marked on your hand.
  • Betting works as in Seven Card Stud: antes, a bring-in by the lowest card showing, then fixed bets of 10 and 20. The best hand showing opens later rounds, with wild cards counted as their own rank.
  • Because the wild rank can change on any street, a hand that looks strong on fifth street can shrink on sixth. Watch the face-up cards, including the Queens.

Baseball

Fixed-limit 7-card stud · a face-up 4 gives a card
  • Baseball is Seven Card Stud with 3s and 9s wild. A 3 or 9 can stand for any card, so strong hands are very common and Five of a Kind is the best hand.
  • Any player who is dealt a 4 face up gets an extra card, dealt face down, so they have more cards to choose from. Several 4s can mean 9 or more cards to make the best five.
  • Rules vary in home games. In some, the player must pay to get the extra card, and in some a face-up 4 and a face-up 3 have other effects. This free version gives the extra card for free.
  • With so many wild cards, a pair is weak and you need trips or better to win often. Bets are fixed at 10 and 20 after an ante of 2 and a bring-in of 5.

Anaconda (Pass the Trash)

Fixed-limit · seven cards, all face down
  • Everyone gets seven cards face down and nobody shows anything. After a round of betting, each player passes three cards to the player on their left, without seeing the cards coming back until everyone has passed.
  • The process repeats with two cards and then one card, with a betting round before each pass and one more after the last pass. At the showdown, everyone uses the best five of their seven cards.
  • Pass the cards that do not fit your hand, but remember they go to your neighbour, so strong cards you give away can come back to beat you. Keep pairs, trips and cards of one suit, and pass odd high cards.
  • Rules vary in home games. Some versions have players discard down to five cards and turn cards up one at a time with betting after each. This free version uses the simple pass-and-bet form, with bets of 10 and 20.

In-Between

Pot game · beat the pot by guessing the gap
  • Everyone antes 5 into a pot. Each player takes a turn: two cards are turned face up, and you bet any amount up to the pot that the next card will land between them in rank. Ace can be high or low, and you choose when you draw one.
  • If the next card is between the two, you win your bet from the pot. If it is outside, your bet goes into the pot. If it matches either card, you pay double. When the cards are consecutive, no card can fit, so you pass.
  • The odds are exact. The more cards that fit between, the better the bet. Turn on the equity overlay to see the chance of each result and the average result for each chip you bet.
  • Play continues around the table, and when the pot is empty everyone antes again. The bots bet more when the odds are good, depending on the difficulty you choose.

High Chicago

Fixed-limit 7-card stud · the high spade in the hole
  • High Chicago is Seven Card Stud with a twist: the pot is split between the best poker hand and the player who holds the highest spade in the hole, which means among the cards dealt face down.
  • Face-up spades do not count. The Ace of spades in the hole is the best, then the King, and so on. If no one has a spade in the hole, the best poker hand takes the whole pot.
  • Because the high spade pays half the pot, a player with the Ace of spades face down can win money with a weak hand. Watch which spades show up, since those cannot be in the hole.
  • Bets are fixed at 10 and 20 after an ante of 2 and a bring-in of 5, as in Seven Card Stud.

Kings and Little Ones

Fixed-limit 7-card stud · wild cards
  • This is Seven Card Stud with wild cards: Kings are wild for everyone, and each player's lowest face-down card is wild for that player, together with any other card of the same rank in their hand.
  • Your wild cards are marked on your hand. Taking a lower card face down later can change which rank is wild for you, so the 7th card is a bit of a risk.
  • Because the lowest hole card is a personal wild, everyone has at least one or two wild cards, and strong hands such as Four of a Kind and Five of a Kind are common.
  • There is no official rulebook for this game and the rules vary between groups. This free version uses the description above, with bets of 10 and 20.

Screw Your Neighbor

Three lives each · lowest card loses
  • Each player starts with three lives and one card, face down. In turn, starting on the dealer's left, you can keep your card or swap it with the card of the next player on your left. A player holding a King shows it and cannot be swapped with.
  • The dealer goes last and can swap with the top card of the deck instead. Then everyone turns their card over, and the lowest card loses a life, with ties all losing one. Ace is the lowest card and King the highest.
  • A player with no lives left is out, and the last player standing wins the prize pot, made from a 10 chip ante from each player at the start of the game.
  • Swapping from a low card is easy, but a mid-ranked card is the hard choice. If you swap, you also learn something: the player you swapped with now holds your old card, so it is not a mystery card any more.

Free home poker games FAQ

Are these games really free?

Yes. You play with play-money chips against three computer opponents. There is no sign-up, nothing to buy, and the chips have no cash value.

What is Guts poker?

Everyone antes and gets three cards, then each player decides at the same time whether to stay in or drop out. The best hand among those who stayed in wins the pot, and the other players who stayed in must match the pot, which becomes the start of the next one. If everyone drops out, the pot carries over.

How do wild cards work in Follow the Queen and Baseball?

A wild card can stand for any card, so Five of a Kind becomes the best hand. In Follow the Queen, Queens are wild and so is the rank of the card dealt face up after the latest face-up Queen. In Baseball, 3s and 9s are wild, and a face-up 4 gives its owner an extra card.

What is Anaconda or Pass the Trash?

Each player gets seven cards face down. After a round of betting you pass three cards to the player on your left, then bet again and pass two, then bet and pass one, with a last round of betting before the showdown. Your hand is the best five of your seven cards.

How does In-Between work?

Two cards are turned up, and you bet that a third card will land between them in rank. You win your bet from the pot if it does and pay it into the pot if it does not. If the third card matches one of the first two, you pay double. The equity overlay shows the exact odds for each turn.

What are High Chicago, Kings and Little Ones and Screw Your Neighbor?

High Chicago is Seven Card Stud in which half the pot goes to the highest spade held face down. Kings and Little Ones is Seven Card Stud with Kings wild and each player's lowest hole card wild for that player. Screw Your Neighbor is a one-card game in which you may swap with the next player, and the lowest card loses a life.

Do these rules match my home game?

Probably not exactly. Home games vary a lot, especially for wild cards, extra cards and how pots are matched. Each game on this page states the rules it uses, so check them against your own group's before you play.
