Texas Card House Ramps Up Security After Several Houston Poker Rooms Are Robbed

On this page
A wave of robberies has hit at least four poker rooms around Houston in recent weeks, prompting one of the area’s biggest poker clubs to step up its protection.
Texas Card House Houston, one of six TCH clubs in Texas, is responding to the growing problem in the region. The club has brought in an additional security guard who will be on site around the clock, aiming to keep both the business and its players safe from what appears to be a serial robber.
The well-known poker club has also tightened security at its Dallas location, although that change has nothing to do with the Houston robberies.
H2: What’s Going on in Houston?
Texas Card House was not one of the rooms robbed during the past month. Even so, the largest poker brand in Texas is taking no chances.
Armed robbers have targeted at least four Houston-area poker rooms over the last month. The latest incident happened about a week ago at Capri Poker Club in Webster, a town roughly 25 miles from central Houston. More than a dozen armed robbers are reported to have walked into the 20-table room and demanded cash.
Capri is preparing to move to a new location, but the club says the relocation is due to its building lease expiring and is not linked to the robbery. The move is expected to take place around the start of the new year.
Spades Poker House in Baytown and Empire Poker Club are among the other rooms that have also been hit. Capri Poker Club said its video surveillance from the robbery appears to show the same suspect seen in the Spades robbery. No arrests have been made in any of the Houston-area poker robberies so far, but police in each of the jurisdictions involved seem to have identified at least one suspect.
This is not the first time Houston’s poker community has faced such a threat. Last year, a crew of armed robbers was caught after following players home from Lucky J Social Club.
