Baptiste Celette Completes Fairy-Tale Comeback to Win Unibet DeepStack Open Annecy Main Event

On this page
The Unibet DeepStack Open (UDSO) rolled into Casino Impérial in Annecy from 27 October, and its €550 Main Event delivered one of the best stories of the year. Baptiste Celette, who didn’t even pay for his seat, fought back from the brink to claim the title and the €65,000 top prize.
940 Entries and a €442,176 Prize Pool
The €550 UDSO Main Event attracted 940 entries, building an impressive prize pool of €442,176. A total of 128 players made the money, with a minimum cash of €687.50.
When the dust settled, Celette faced Victor Pahon heads-up. Celette got the better of him to secure the trophy and €65,000, while Pahon collected €41,276 as runner-up.
From Spin Grinder to Live Champion
Celette’s background makes this win even more special. The Lyon-based player has spent around five years as a professional online Spin poker player, a format far removed from deep-stacked live tournaments.
He came to Annecy as part of a Spin Elite seminar that combined poker with networking. The team made up roughly 6% of the Main Event field. As a thank-you for his loyalty, Celette had his Main Event buy-in covered.
Down to Eight Big Blinds
For a while, it looked like the dream run would end early. With six players left, Celette was down to just eight big blinds and looked set to bow out.
Instead, he found the double-ups he needed, rebuilt his stack and went all the way to victory.
Spin Elite had another strong showing in the event, with teammate Clément Pabion finishing 11th.
